Education
I recently graduated, with honors, from American College of Healthcare Sciences (2024), with my Bachelor’s of Science in integrative health sciences, with aromatherapy specialization. I also achieved several certificates in herbal studies, aromatherapy, and herbal product mfg. I plan to continue my education and achieve my Master’s and PhD. Big goals I know, but I truly believe in myself and I have wonderful support from friends and family. During my studies I took a deep interest in microbiology when someone close to me was suffering from MRSA for over 12 years, in which 3 of those years, I studied and experimented until I cured it, yes cured it. I used a combination therapy of herbal medicine and western medicine; the treatment plan was 10 weeks. Throughout my journey, I’ve supported many people by addressing imbalances and improving their overall well-being. Most importantly, I focus on preventive care because staying healthy and well is easier than treating illness later.
Herbal Magic
Throughout my years of studying, I have become fascinated with chemistry and how it connects to the natural world. I learned that plants are made up of molecules that also make up the human body and well, almost the entire world! Crazy right? “Everything is everything” is what I love to say. Aromatherapy is beneficial because essential oils contain chemicals called volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These compounds are made of molecules, which in turn are made of atoms. Essential oils are mostly composed of hydrogen and carbon atoms, with some also containing oxygen atoms. Those tiny, chemically bonded molecules are what give plants their unique properties. The specific functional group in each molecule influences its odor, solubility, toxicity, and health benefits (Bowles, 2003). Realizing this completely blew my mind and it’s why I am sharing this knowledge with you. I could go on for hours! If you want to learn more, stay tuned because I’ll be using my website as a blog to share my knowledge about herbal science, aromatherapy, and so much more!
Fashion
Somewhere along the way I decided that I want to make my own clothes. I began shopping at local thrift stores in search of fabric, blankets, old clothes, and anything with a cool pattern. I started upcycling stuff in my closet to give old fabric or an unflattering item a new life. I became addicted. After I graduated, I started sewing as much as possible. I would get home from work and sew all night long. This summer I spent a lot of time alone and indoors. I started creating my own patterns and really learning how to work with fabric to create exactly what I have in mind. My goal is to be as sustainable as possible. I think it is important to reduce, reuse, and recycle and that includes clothes. It is sickening to think that 9 million tons of clothing and footwear are landfilled in the U.S. each year, according to the EPA (2018). Shopping secondhand and/or buying from sustainable artists can make a huge difference in our precious world.
Dance/Flow Arts
I have been dancing my entire life and I mean that. Since I was a toddler, dancing and singing was one of my favorite things ever! My parents signed me up for dance classes at a young age and I vividly remember my first dance performance, a hip hop number, being to the song “Genie in a Bottle,” by Christina Aguilera. As the years went on, I became a trained ballerina, jazz, and hip hop dancer, and one of the top dancers in our company. We competed all over the Midwest and kicked ass. Those were the days. During my teenage years, we moved and my mom couldn’t make the drive anymore. I had to quit and my dreams of dancing professionally were crushed, but I never stopped dancing at home. In 2014, I found flow toys. A girl I hardly knew asked me if I hula hooped and said she had some hoops for sale if I was interested. That was the day my life changed forever. Flow arts is one of the greatest outlets I have ever experienced. 11 years later and I am not only hula hoop dancing but fire dancing. This outlet has helped me through so many dark times. I recently found a local crew to spin fire with and I am so inspired by each and every one of the artists. I’ve been making hula hoops here and there over the years but now, I am about to pop off with fire toys, so keep those eyes peeled! My flow Insta, if you are wondering, is Tayokristine.
